Lords of Fuzz quite literally started as a dream in the head of lead singer Oscar Ross, as he recruited players to bring his dream to fruition, the reality around him changed in the form of members leaving the band, or getting kicked to the curb do to the Ross man's intolerance to ignorance, racism, and greed. Since then the line-up has changed but always for the better, creating new songs, new friends and more gigs. The current incarnation of the “Fuzz” has proven to be more powerful than ever and the future promises longevity and more than enough ass kicking music. One of the things about this band is the camaraderie between the members, all of which get along and spend time together outside of the music, which leads to a tighter sound and a better more entertaining show, “four members, one organism” is a fact that will be evident if you have the luck to catch one of their shows.
Hammercock on the drums is the thunder behind the strings, though saying behind is an understatement due to his history of playing very fast metal core and his high tolerance to consistent battering of the skins you can't ignore his highly energetic beats. Oscar Ross is the voice and the screams out in front. He is the dreamer, and the rhythm guitarist, his fuzzy tone always thickens up the sound. Spending much of his formative years listening to Neil Young and Johnny Cash, somehow he finds a way to reflect the story telling abilities of these “folk” artists in the Lords of Fuzz, you don't believe it, just listen to the words. Leeroy Steele being the lead guitarist has a way of always finding some secret in the song with solos that according to him “should take you to another world or have you singing the melody on the way out.” His sometimes spooky ethereal guitar work leaves you wondering what instrument you are actually hearing. Mugger MacKaye is the newest member and bass engineer holding it down and somehow getting just the right feel filling in the spaces with a groove that is on the money. And he loves his Chicago Bears!
“The Lords of Fuzz sound is heavy rock mixed with moments of 1970’s psychedelic, lavish thick guitar and pulsating rhythms similar to that of Black Sabbath. The most interesting and awe-inspiring moments of ‘Bruiser’ however are found within bridges and song endings where the LoF turn more experimental and the instruments are approached in an unwritten way” writes Dave Preston of Colorado Music Buzz magazine. Comparisons have included QoTSA, Helmet and early Nirvana. The Lords have a long tradition of including beautiful Go-Go dancers on stage and have played in Nevada, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Louisiana. They are coming to you soon! |
